April 29, 2025

H.E. Yerzhan Ashikbayev, Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United States, joined Rabbi Marc Schneier in conversation at a special Yom HaShoah Holocaust commemoration at the Museum of Jewish Heritage – A Living Memorial to the Holocaust in New York. The Ambassador and the Rabbi discussed Kazakhstan’s remarkable history as a safe haven in saving hundreds of thousands of Jews during the Holocaust. Kazakhstan, which boasts the largest synagogue in Central Asia – Beit Rachel in Astana – has today between 30,000 – 40,000 Jews living within its borders.
