Martin Luther King III joins Rabbi Marc Schneier in Launching SHARED DREAMS Curriculum Guide Program in Los Angeles

On January 8, 2001 The Foundation For Ethnic Understanding inaugurated the SHARED DREAMS curriculum guide project at David Starr Jordan High School in Los Angeles. Martin Luther King III, President of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, joined Rabbi Marc Schneier and over 2,300 students from both David Starr Jordan High School and Milken Community High School in commemorating the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The joint assembly, which brought together the entire student body of each high school, was an inspiring event for both the Jewish and African students present.

Later in the day, students utilized the curriculum guide in small groups throughout the school. Milken student Justin Friedman said that the assembly demonstrated tat it is "important to be a community, keep an open mind and not separate ourselves." Martin Luther King III reiterated that sentiment when he added " My father believed injustice anywhere is an affront to justice everywhere, certainly that belief applied to his relationships with Jews. I believe it's important that young African-Americans know this legacy of support for the Jewish community.
