WASHINGTON, DC OFFICE HOSTS ETHNIC CONGRESSIONAL STAFF FORUM

On August 12, 2003, The Foundation and World Jewish Congress hosted a forum for the staffs of the ethnic members of Congress. The meeting marked the first time staffers for Congress members in the Congressional Black Caucus, Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Jewish Congressional Delegation and Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus were brought together to discuss issues that affect all four groups. The forum was led by a panel that included Paul Brathwaite, Executive Director the Congressional Black Caucus, Brett Heimov, Chief of Staff for Congressman Jerrold Nadler, Jiny Kim, Legislative Aide for Congressman David Wu, Lawrence Kopp, Executive Director of The Foundation for Ethnic Understanding, Maria Meier, Executive Director of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and Arnoldo Resendez, Vice President of the National Council of La Raza. Genia Wright, Director of The Foundation's Washington office, spoke as well. "The forum that The Foundation hosted here on Capitol Hill was extremely important in fostering community dialogue among the staff of the caucuses," Mr. Brathwaite said. "I look forward to being a part of the effort." Sixty staffers representing forty-one congressional offices were in attendance. The forum was the first event held by The Foundation/World Jewish Congress new Washington, DC office.
