FFEU hosted a private luncheon on Sept. 15, 2016 in New York City to discuss the efforts spearheaded by the foundation and its Muslims friends to combat Islamophobia. The attendees include Imam Shamsi Ali of Jamaica Muslim Center and Nusantara Foundation, Daisy Khan of Women's Islamic Initiative in Spirituality and Equality, Shafqat Islam, Dean Obeidallah, Shimon Sheves, Simi Teitelbaum and Chris Sacarabany, Executive Director of FFEU.
Legendary TV and film producer Norman Lear was the Guest of Honor at the luncheon. FFEU President Rabbi Marc Schneier and Secretary of the Board Ken Sunshine presented him with an award for his support to the MuslimsAreSpeakingOut - #MASO campaign.
Mr. Lear said that his life experiences led him to "see the other as an other me." He shared his vision of the American society today and wish for every citizens of the United States to be considered as human being and treated as such.
