Rabbi Marc Schneier and Russell Simmons Address Government and Community Leaders at Reverend Al Sharpton’s Event

On January 15th, 2007 people across the nation commemorated the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Reverend Al Sharpton's annual celebration in Harlem included a string of political and community leaders. Some of the attendees included Governor Eliot Spitzer, Lieutenant Governor David Paterson, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, several members of Congress, and Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, who joked that he was modeling a Phat Farm suit by Russell Simmons. Rabbi Marc Schneier and Russell Simmons both addressed the crowd and the guests of honor discussing the necessity to fight not only for your own rights but for the rights of others. Racial discrimination and the vision of unity were an issue Rabbi Schneier and Russell Simmons decided to touch upon in order to remember Dr. Kings fight for equality. "We can't be passive, doing nothing contributes to the gap in our society and that is a gap we must actively fight" said Rabbi Schneier.
