Reverend Al Sharpton hosted his National Action Network's (NAN) ninth annual convention, April 18-21. The convention took place at the Sheraton New York Hotel & Towers and included appearances by Senators John Edwards, Hillary Clinton, and Barack Obama, Governor Eliot Spitzer, filmmaker Spike Lee, Fox News's Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity, ABC's Martin Bashir and many more. In the opening plenary, Rabbi Marc Schneier took part in the Round Table Discussion on Improving Race Relations: Where Do We Go From Here-Chaos or Community? Rabbi Schneier joined fellow panelists, former New York City Mayor, Ed Koch, Chairman of the DNC, Howard Dean, former Congressman Harold Ford Jr. (D-TN), and Megan Smolenyak, Chief Family Historian at Ancestory.com. The discussion was broadcast live on Reverend Sharpton's national radio show. Rabbi Schneier discussed changing ethnic demographics
in the United States and highlighted the shifting ethnic diversity from
the 100th Congress (1987) to the 110th Congress (2007). "Together,
we can continue making the changes which will ultimately bring a better
and stronger society" Schneier said. |
