Foundation at 28th Congressional Black Caucus
Annual Legislative Conference

In preparation for the Emerging Leaders Plenary session at the 2007 Congressional
Black Caucus Foundation's (CBCF) Annual Legislative Conference in Washington, DC on
September 28th, The Foundation facilitated a group of young leaders in developing a
statement about the effects of international activity on American communities of color.
Congressional Outreach Director, Alicia Simmons, presented the statement to the panel,
which consisted of Congressional Black Caucus Chairwoman, Congresswoman Carolyn
Kilpatrick
, special guest, Senator Hilary Clinton, and CBCF Chairman, Congressman
Kendrick Meeks
.

This event was attended by an overflow audience of nearly five hundred students of
color, educators, and national organizers, and many Congressional Black Caucus
members, including Congressman John Lewis, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee,
Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones, and Congressman Emmanuel Cleaver. Also in attendance were City of Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and Reverend Jesse Jackson.
